My first video
I filmed my first music video during the summer holiday, having a superficial knowledge about filming and video editing. The location I chose was the central park from my hometown and the subject was one of my friends, Edward, who enjoys playing the guitar. He knew the chords and the lyrics for "Creep" by Stone Temple Pilots by heart, so we decided to film a half of a music video using this song. I got inspired by the official music video and I used different techniques like lipsync, instrumentalsync and cut to the beat. Furthermore, I applied a filter over the raw montage and I included a choreography part in which Edward in moving backward and forward like the lead vocalist Scott Weiland, from STP did in their video. Not knowing any other video editing software, I edited everything using iMovie from my Macbook Air.
After a few weeks, when I watched again the video, I observed some details that made the difference between a professional music video and my video, due to my lack of knowledge in this domain. For example, the gestures must be exaggerated in order to accurately express the lipsync part. Another important factor was represented by the shots: they were repetitive, making the video quite boring after a while. When it comes to interpretations, I tried to make the music video personal because the lyrics of the song are about being "half the man I used to be", focusing on the conflict between emotions in a person who is going through hard times, trying to find the true self in a society where no one understands him/her.
